Listen & Walk With Your Library

Exercise your mind and your body when you walk with your library!

Walking is one of the easiest forms of exercise out there, and Penn Yan and the Finger Lakes feature everything from easy strolls through historic streets to challenging hill climbs far from the hustle and bustle. Use the maps and links on this website to discover all the great walking our area has to offer.

We offer many ways to listen while you walk, including traditional audiobooks, downloadable audiobooks, and audiobooks on pre-loaded players. You can even check out a pedometer to use while you walk!

Library Resources

Check out a pedometer and use it to keep track of your steps. This short video explains how to set up our pedometers.

Download our Fitness brochure, which highlights related items from our collection, including books, DVDs, videogames, and downloads.

You can download free audiobooks from the library.  They delete automatically at the end of the loan period so there are never any overdue fees. If you’re not sure how to get started, click here for helpful video tutorials and more.

Lots of audiobooks on CD and Playaway are available at PYPL, too.

Audio Links

It can be difficult to find free and legal audiobooks of current, popular titles. However, as long as you don’t mind non-professional narration, there are lots of self-published audiobooks, and audio versions of classics, out there to discover. You can find free audiobooks of public domain titles at LibriVox, while Podiobooks offers a wide variety of self-published titles across many genres.

Lots of free audio content is also available in podcast format. If you use iTunes or a similar media store, try searching for free podcasts. You never know what you’ll find! Many universities also offer podcasts of introductory-level courses for free.
