It can be difficult to find free and legal audiobooks of current, popular titles. However, as long as you don’t mind non-professional narration, there are lots of self-published audiobooks, and audio versions of classics, out there to discover. You can find free audiobooks of public domain titles at LibriVox, while Podiobooks offers a wide variety of self-published titles across many genres.
Lots of free audio content is also available in podcast format. If you use iTunes or a similar media store, try searching for free podcasts. You never know what you’ll find! Many universities also offer podcasts of introductory-level courses for free.
