Friends
of the Library
The Penn Yan Public Library was chartered in 1895 and moved into the building it now occupies in 1905. Throughout the years, the Library has offered a range of programs and services for children and adults. The Library is an important community asset and the Friends gain satisfaction as part of its support team.
Since its start in 1982, the Friends of the Library has been helping to make a good thing even better. Membership dues and Book Sale money are used to add to the Library's books, recordings, and magazines as well as equipment and furnishings. In the past few years the Friends have purchased shelves for Books on Tape, the circulation desk, and a microform reader-printer for the Local History Room. In the past year they have given funds for a baby changing table, books on tape, and large print books.
The Friends also support a variety of library programs. Members who choose an active role can help with the book sale, the newsletter, hospitality and other special programs and events.
Our Library plays an important role in all of Yates County. It has begun a project to add to the building so as to better serve the needs of the community. In this endeavor the support of the Friends will be more critical than ever.

The Friends of the Penn Yan Public Library is a non-profit community based organization whose mission is to assist the Penn Yan Public Library in its service to an ever-changing community. Some of the ways which we help include contributing funds for special projects, by volunteering when extra hands are needed and by being advocates for the library
